Google has already won the search engine war. Everyone already knows that online search means Google. But many of us don’t know or haven’t explored some of the many cool products Google has beside its search engine. If used correctly, some of these products can significantly improve our day to day productivity and efficiency. In this post I have given a very brief overview of seven Google products that I use on a daily basis.
Gmail
Gmail, is a free POP3 and IMAP webmail service provided by Google. Tired of having to refresh all the time to see if you have got new mail in your inbox? Gmail uses POP3 which means your mail will pop up in your inbox as they arrive; goodbye to the good old endless refresh!
Gmail has a much better spam protection than other webmail providers. Which means you don’t have to spend fifteen minutes every morning trying to work out which emails are important and which ones are spam!
Organization of your mails through the usage of ‘Labels’ is a very easy and an efficient way to manage your emails. Gmail offers many more cool features that I will leave up to you to explore if you haven’t already.
Google Docs
Google Doc is a free web-based word processor, presentation and spreadsheet. It allows you to share and collaborate online. You can get your online documents from Any Computer, at Any Time. No more carrying of documents from work computer to home computer or vice versa on a USB stick everyday!
I find Google doc to be a really efficient way to manage my documents that I update frequently and use from multiple computers from multiple locations. Previously I used to carry those documents on a USB stick and occasionally I would forget to take my USB stick with me or forget to copy the files to the USB stick; this would significantly affect my productivity.
Google Bookmarks
Google Bookmarks is an online service that lets you save your favourite sites and attach labels and annotations.
Can’t remember the site address that you bookmarked in your home computer? Google Bookmarks is the answer. Google Bookmarks is really helpful when you want to access your favourites from multiple computers from multiple locations (work, home, friends place).
YouTube
YouTube is a video sharing website where users can upload, view and share video clips. Google acquired YouTube in 2006. Besides the obvious usage of video sharing, YouTube can be used in various ways for your own benefit. Read the post titled Reduce your website’s bandwidth and storage usage to find out more.
Google Maps
Google Maps provides directions, interactive maps, and satellite/aerial imagery. Google map is really helpful for getting directions and maps and the Street view (virtually explore neighbourhoods at street level) is simply amazing!
Google Adwords
Google Adwords is Google’s advertising platform. Use Google Adwords to advertise to people searching on Google and Google’s advertising network. AdWords offers pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, and site-targeted advertising for both text and banner ads.
If you have an online business or you are thinking about advertising online then Google Adwords is a must use program!
Google Adsense
Google AdSense is a fast and easy way for website publishers of all sizes to display relevant Google ads on their website’s content pages and earn money.
So if you are thinking of earning some extra cash from your website through advertising then give Google Adsense a try.
